HULL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Developers in Hull have started to lay the foundation for a mixed-use project at the former site of Paragon Park at Nantasket Beach, decades after the amusement park closed.
The project, spearheaded by Procopio Companies, is set to include a large number of apartments.
Feelings about the development are mixed. "You have a few people that are really angry about it," one resident said.
Lisa, a longtime resident of the area said that neighbors are concerned about the size and scope of the project.
"Some of the locals, whose family have been here for generations, they like it the way it is," Lisa said. But she is personally "excited about the changes."

Meanwhile, some residents say the project is a necessity. "There are people out there that need housing," one man said.
According to state officials, the housing crisis in Massachusetts has existed for decades. Residents say the project is a necessity for people who are in need of a home.
Paragon Park Amusement Park closed in 1984. All that remains is its carousel, which was moved a short distance away. It still runs nearly 100 years after it was built in 1928.
"It's one of less than 100 grand carousels remaining in the United States," according to the Paragon Carousel website.
