PLYMOUTH , Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Communities on the South Shore will most likely see their first measurable snowfall this weekend.

Last week, residents in Central and Western Massachusetts experienced their first snowfall of the year. The past few winters have been fairly calm across the South Shore. An early snowfall might catch some by surprise, but some veteran New Englanders say that it is business as usual when it comes to snow in the Bay State.

"I'm not going to do anything. I'm going to bundle up, stay close to the fire. And snow blow it when it's all over and done with," one local said.

Experts predict there could be up to three inches by Sunday morning. Ron from North Plymouth said he is getting his equipment ready to prepare for whatever the weather brings.

"Right now getting a part for my snow blower," Ron said. "Other than that, probably stay off the road, stay home, stay warm."

While some might lament the idea of snow on the ground, others say it makes them feel like the holidays have finally arrived.

"Somehow it makes the cold weather a little better for me if there's snow on the ground. It just makes it more festive," another local said.

The City of Boston compiled a comprehensive set of safety tips to help residents prepare for the winter season:

  • Prepare for power outages. Stock up on batteries, flashlights and canned goods. Make sure you have a battery-operated radio, extra medicine, blankets and bottled water on hand.
  • Wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing.
  • Remember to wear clothing like sweaters, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves. Wool clothing keeps your warmer than cotton when damp or wet.
  • Put mittens over your gloves.
  • Remember to check on your elderly family and neighbors.
