REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — State Police say three people are injured after a chaotic day at Revere Beach on Sunday. Two separate shootings happened on the beach within an hour of each other.

Police said first shooting was near Centennial Avenue, about two blocks off Revere Beach at about 7:10 p.m. Investigators said they believe the shooting happened in the middle of a big fight. The victim was a 17-year-old girl, who was shot in the "lower body." The girl was taken to Mass. General Hospital, but police expected her to recover.

Another shooting came less than an hour later at about 8:00 p.m., only a few hundred feet away at the Revere Beach Boulevard bandstand. A 51-year-old woman was shot in the legs, but police think she wasn't the target in the shooting. A 17-year-old boy was grazed by the gunfire, and State Police are trying to see if he was the target. The woman was taken to Mass. General, where she's expected to be okay. The boy refused treatment.

"I could hear the sirens going on for well over an hour," said Chris, who lives in one of the apartment complexes along Revere Beach. He was on the beach when one of the shootings happened.

The beach often sees large crowds of young people early in the summer, which sometimes devolve into violence.

"On a day like that, once it gets into the late afternoon, something always happens," he said.

Neighbors around the beach told WBZ-TV that police were outnumbered by the massive crowds of young people on the beach on Sunday. Camera crews there witnessed several fights breaking out. Police eventually had to close the beach on Sunday night.

No one has been arrested in the shootings yet.
