REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Dozens of locals gathered holding shovels at the former Wonderland Dog Track to celebrate the construction of a new high school.

Revere Mayor Patrick Keefe and Congresswoman Katherine Clark were among the crowd, joined by other city officials. The high school would be constructed on the former dog track.

“Today’s Groundbreaking represents a pact, that no matter what is happening in politics, this community, right here in Revere, we will always fight for education, for opportunity for everyone,” said Clark.

The cost of the project is estimated to be $493 million, with the Massachusetts School Building Authority agreeing to pay half. The new building includes playing fields, a community walking path, a learning garden, and tennis courts.

“In this space, we will always be reminded of the best of Revere that’s been, and the best of Revere that’s yet to come, because you deserve it,” said Keefe.

The work is projected to be completed by 2028, just in time for some eager students, like rising 6th-grader Gabriella Reese.

“I think it’s going to be amazing, and I’m so excited for this,” said Reese. “I think it’s a really good thing to have, and I’m really happy for it.”
