Revere's Winter Wonderland Festival Features Food, Music, Ice Sculptures

REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Saturday, Revere hosted their first annual Winter Wonderland festival at the Waterfront Square, which featured an ice sculpture competition, live music and vendors selling sweets, drinks, food and more.

One of the people designing an ice sculpture spoke about his art, which he was entering into the contest in the hopes of winning the $2,500 first-place prize.

"This is a tiger, and it will be chasing a rabbit," he described. "My daughter tells me that rabbits and tigers are not on the same continents."

Although the ice sculptors were used to working in cold conditions, other people at the festival were doing their best to weather the sunny yet cold temperatures on Saturday. "I'm wearing a wearable sleeping bag. I just found out one of these exist," commented one person who was at the Winter Wonderland festival as a face painter.

Inside and away from the ice sculptors and others braving the cold, tables were set up for a winter market inside Marriott's SpringHill Suites.

"My family is out of the Bahamas, and we're here featuring seven different flavors of rum cake, and they're the best in the world," said James, who was handing out samples of his cakes.

Other vendors were selling different kinds of food as well as jewelry, clothing, candles, plants and more.

The festival ran from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 3, and included live performances as well as a chili cook-off in addition to the indoor market and ice sculptures.

Adrienne Maguire with the Revere Beach Partnership said the city is no longer just about sand sculptures. "It was always our hope to offer some event in every season of the year."

The Revere Beach Partnership is a non-profit who planned the Winter Wonderland event as well as the Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival in the summer.
