LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in Lynn on Wednesday to mark the official opening of the downtown campus of the Frederick Douglass Collegiate Academy.

FDCA is part of the Lynn Public Schools District.

Along with FDCA's opening, there was another reason to celebrate:

Eastern Bank's $2 million donation to Lynn Public Schools.

Eastern Bank CEO Bob Rivers said the donation is just a part of the commitment the bank has to supporting its surrounding community. "Really what we are doing here in Lynn is what we try to do everywhere," he said. "It's to make a deep investment in the cities and other towns that we do business in. It's giving back to our community. Lynn is a very important place for us."

In fact, this new academy and headquarters for Lynn Public Schools is in the same building that used to be the former local headquarters of Eastern Bank.

FDCA provides its students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credits.

FDCA also provides more access to college, especially for first-generation, low-income, and students of color.
