MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tropical Storm Ernesto is expected to bring rough seas to the Commonwealth’s coastline.

Although it is not expected to make landfall in Mass., the National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Ernesto could bring waves as high as 10 feet at some of the state’s beaches this weekend. Officials will likely put Rip Current Warnings in place as soon as Friday.

On Wednesday morning, the waves were calm and relaxing in Marblehead, Mass. Rich and his family are hoping Tropical Storm Ernesto will change that this weekend.

“Depending on the direction of it, there could be substantial waves that break up on the shore. It’s fun to take young kids out and have them experience it and experience it ourselves,” said Rich.

Rich said he and his family will likely go out to watch the waves as they come crashing down.

“I’ve got a boat in the harbor. It’s fun to go out and look at the boats, but there’s always a lost boat or two,” said Rich.

Mike said those with boats should be extra cautious this weekend.

“You definitely don’t want to take anything for granted, so you want to be prepared either way,” said Mike.
