TAUNTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Taunton beauty and cosmetology school Rob Roy Academy is offering free haircuts to Taunton Public School students ahead of the upcoming school year.
“Going back to school it’s obviously exciting [but] it’s a lot, sometimes when people have multiple children, so we just want to be able to help out with that,” said Jillian Serrano, admissions coordinator for Rob Roy Academy.

Serrano said the program, which runs from Monday Aug. 19 through Thursday Aug. 22, has benefits for not just parents, but student barbers and cosmetologists too.
“Cosmetology is a program that we teach, and it enables them to go for their state board license,” added Serrano.
“You know it was great that I was able to get these kids in right before school,” said a parent.

However, Rob Roy Academy says that they are offering more than just haircuts for kids.
“We take clients from haircuts to blowouts, to manicures [and] pedicures, we don’t charge for services, and this allows our students to get the practice that they need,” said Rob Roy manager Jessica Doucet.
Rob Roy Academy also said that they will also offer free haircuts to kids who read and explain the plotline of a book off the shelf of its free library in the future.
The current school in Taunton is at a temporary location. Rob Roy Academy plans to open a new salon soon.
