Roche Brothers Employee Hopes To Bag $10K

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Kathleen Maroun, 28, conquered the title of best grocery bagger in the state, and now she's headed to San Diego for a national competition.

"I am both nervous and excited, I don't know, there's something about this round that's a little more nerve wracking," Maroun said.

Maroun works for Roche Bros. in Downtown Crossing. She practices for about an hour a day, and store manager Mark Guinasso says her focus has paid off.

"Very proud of her, she did a great job," Guinasso said. "We're going to win, we're going to bring it home."

The national prize is $10,000, and Maroun doesn't have any indulgent plans for it so far for if she wins.

"I'm going to put most of it into bank accounts and forget I even have it," Maroun said.

The National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship is Monday, February 24.
