BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — For people who may have thought their last roommates would be from their college days, guess again.

As the cost of housing continues to skyrocket, especially in the city, more and more young adult renters are getting creative when trying to afford rent.

And in some cases, that means sharing their living quarters with roommates.

Kristian Kotov, Associate Broker with Jacob Realty, said there are good reasons to have roommates. "Most of these younger professionals simply don't have the necessary income or credit score to even be approved for a studio or a one-bedroom," he said.

Another consideration for multiple roommates is bathroom time.

According to Demtrios Salpoglou, CEO of the real estate website Boston Pads, beginning in the 1990's landlords saw the growing demand for people starting to live together, so they began adding more bathrooms to their properties helping fuel the roommate trend.
