ROWLEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On three-and-a-half acres of scenic land in Rowley, on the former site of Dodge's Cider Mill, sits Mill River Winery.

The orchard and vineyard were established back in 2010 by Donna Martin, a PhD chemist and winemaker. "I can tell you this is a passion of mine," she said. "I am formerly a chemist working in industry and academia, but I always did like wine, and I always liked to farm and grow things."

Martin said her signature dry-styled varietal wines are a combination of science, precision, passion, and fun.

She said her wines are handcrafted from either locally sourced or from global wine regions.

Mill River Winery is a 100% woman-owned business.

The wine's label features the Red-Winged Blackbird, one of the many bird species that flourish nearby at the National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island.
