BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A proper meal is not out of reach for students at Roxbury Community College.

On Monday, the community celebrated the opening of the expanded Rox Box grill on campus.
According to RCC’s website, the Rox Box food pantry first opened last year as a resource for students battling food insecurity.
Mass. Representative Chynah Tyler told WBZ NewsRadio that the pantry is walk-in and has a no-questions-asked policy in place.
“I’m a new mom so they had stuff for parents, they had stuff for people who happen to menstruate, they had food, they had a frozen refrigerator, so it kind of meets people where they’re at on different levels,” said Jada Horner, a single mom and student who wants to work in the health sector.
The pantry was made possible thanks to a $75,000 gift from DoorDash, which will continue to sustain the pantry over the next three years.
“When I saw this space and saw the way that they are working to eliminate barriers to students’ success in a dignified way I knew that we had to partner with them,” said Daniela Michanie, a Public Engagement Manager for DoorDash New England.
“As soon as you walk in the door, they make you feel like it’s family,” Horner added.
