BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —After years of being a pharmacy desert, a new CVS has opened in Roxbury. However, not all folks are satisfied with the addition.
The CVS recently opened in Nubian Square is only a pharmacy and operates strictly with pharmacy services, like filling prescriptions or getting a flu shot.
You won’t find any chip aisles or reach-in coolers lining the walls in this store, and some residents like Cora said they have some mixed feelings about the new location.
“I like the regular one, where you can go in, have your prescription filled, wait for your medicine, and shop,” said Cora.
Others like Joan are glad they won’t have to travel out of the neighborhood to get their medicine, but they wouldn’t mind the extra room to browse.
“I used to use the Walgreens, but now I get one right in my location,” said Joan. “It’s convenient for me, but I do wish they had the aisles.”
Safety concerns also appear to be an issue, according to one resident.
“I would never get (my prescriptions) over here, just because it’s not safe.”
In a statement from CVS, a spokesperson told WBZ NewsRadio that this store is the first of nearly 20 new pharmacy-focused locations set to open over the next year.
“These new pharmacies are designed around the needs of the communities they serve, offering a convenient and customized pharmacy experience. We chose the Warren Street location in Nubian Square because we saw a need for increased access to pharmacy services. We hope this new site helps close gaps in care by making it easier for patients to get medications, access pharmacist services and receive trusted guidance from their neighborhood CVS pharmacist.”
