FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After announcing the end to his football career in early March, the New England Patriots held a news conference and retirement ceremony for safety Devin McCourty on Tuesday, with Bill Bellichick, Robert Kraft, and his family joining him on stage.

Former Patriots Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, and Vince Wilfork all took part in a 'thank you' video to McCourty, who showed gratitude to the people closest to him.

"Devin congratulations on your retirement, I'm so happy for you— I know how hard you worked over a long period of time. Seeing you come in as a young player and to maximize your potential starting in that corner, when you balled out your rookie year and then made a big transition to safety and became one of the best safety's the history of the NFL, speaks to who you are and what you're all about," former Patriot Quarterback Brady said.

"I'm just grateful I got the opportunity to get drafted here. J Mac always used to make fun of me and say 'you're not a better player than me, you just got drafted to where Tom Brady was and coach Bellichick— and that's the truth man, the journey I got to experience here was one of a kind and to be surrounded by people that all wanted to experience and reach the same goal is something rare," McCourty said.
