SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Locals of the witch city breathing a sigh of relief as this year's Halloween celebrations wind down.

Some residents told WBZ NewsRadio that the Halloween season in the city has gotten longer throughout the years, lasting as long as three months.

“Starting at like the end of August to the middle of November,” one resident said.

Salem city officials said they expected a record-breaking number of visitors this year, reporting earlier this month that 1 million tourists already paid a visit prior to the holiday.

“Usually, it was just the weekend where the big pop would happen and on Halloween itself, but now lately it’s been a lot more people coming all during the week every single day,” one Salem resident told WBZ NewsRadio.

The annual Haunted Happenings festival draws the biggest crowd, as officials prepared for more than 80,000 people in attendance this year.

Meanwhile, Salem Police Chief Lucas Miller announced that the drone show was cancelled last night due to the high winds.
