SALEM Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — While Salem is the place to go during Halloween season, for that reason it is also a parking nightmare for those who visit if you don’t plan ahead. Not only is this stressful for visitors, but residents and officials in the spooky coastal town are also keen on finding a solution to the problem ahead of October when the fun returns. WBZ’s Shari Small spoke with Salem’s Assistant Transportation Manager Christina Hodge.
“We’re a small city with big city problems during October”, said Hodge.
The goal is for Salem to have some better digital systems in place to provide real-time updates on which parking garages have spots open and which ones are full before next Halloween.
“It will communicate with the availability in the garages and then project that onto the screen or it might say “full” or “closed” depending on the day”, added Hodge.
It is the hope that this new system will eliminate stress for both town officials and for those who have just come to enjoy themselves and all Salem has to offer during its peak visitor season.
