Salem Man Organizes Serenade For Ailing Wife On Christmas Eve

SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — About a dozen people stood at the end of short driveway in Salem on Christmas Eve, and they sang their love towards an open window where a 55-year-old woman lifted a thin, frail hand and smiled, recognizing the musical gift from her husband.

High school sweethearts Geoff and Diana Staples celebrated their 35th anniversary a few months ago. Diana suffers from COPD, and while the days may not be many, this day was a diamond.

Geoff told WBZ NewsRadio he wanted his sister to do the talking for this story, because he knew he'd cry.

"My brother wanted to give her something special for Christmas this year, because she's at the end of life," Geoff's sister Beth said. "It's a tribute to the love and respect for my brother and his wife."
