Salem Public Schools Department of Transportation partnered with their school bus company NRT Bus to initiate three apps that will help to ensure student safety between school and home.

The first app Stopfinder is a GPS tracking app that allows parents and caregivers to track their child’s bus in real-time. The second app Wayfinder is an on-board navigation app which tracks when students board and depart buses, and BusPatrol, an app which records drivers illegally passing buses during student pick-up and drop-off times.

“Now that school is back in session, Salem is proud to partner with AAA, BusPatrol, and NRT, to strengthen our commitment, and our actions, to ensure our kids can get to and from school safely,” said Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo.

AAA Northeast also partnered with Salem Public Schools to raise awareness about back to school safety.

“Keeping our children safe is simple: slow down in school zones, be extra alert for pedestrians and bicyclists and always stop for school buses,” said Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson for AAA Northeast.

Salem is participating in a pilot program with BusPatrol, while it remains unclear if the city is engaged in a pilot program with Wayfinder and Stopfinder.
