REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival returned for its 20th year on July 19 through 21.
This annual summer event is fan-favorite for locals and out-of-towners, attracting hundreds to spectators. This year,15 professional sand sculptures from all over the world came to the Bay State to build their masterpieces. The artists will work on their sculptures all of Friday and until 6 p.m. Saturday.
An East Boston resident told WBZ NewsRadio at the event that they’ve been coming to this festival for a long time. “We were just saying that we have been coming since before all of this,” she said.
By “all of this,” she meant before the event became a full-on carnival. Before, she added, it was just a bunch of people walking up and down the beach admiring the sand sculptures.
This year, there are over 75 food vendors, live music, rides and games, and even fireworks.
At the end of the day, the festival is still all about the sand sculptures.
“It’s magnificent. I was here two or three years ago, and the talent is unbelievable. The way they can carve that sand like that, just totally amazing,” said an East Bridgewater resident.
