HYANNIS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Friends and family gathered to say their final goodbyes to Saoirse Kennedy Hill at Our Lady of Victory Church in the Barnstable village of Centerville Monday.

Kennedy Hill, 22, was the granddaughter to the late Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy.

She was found unresponsive Thursday afternoon at the Kennedy family's Hyannis compound after suffering an apparent overdose. She was later pronounced dead at a Cape Cod hospital.

The church was at full capacity Monday morning, but outside, community members reacted to her tragic death.

One area resident named Phyllis told WBZ NewsRadio's Kevin Coleman she sees Ethel Kennedy on a daily basis.

"This is such a tragic time," she said. "I see Ethel at daily mass, and I just admire her faith. She's a wonderful person. We wanted to show some love and sympathy for her."

Another resident walking by described her feelings when she heard about Kennedy Hill's passing last week.

"It's sad, you know, when you have children of your own it doesn't seem fair," she said.

A private burial service took place after the mass.

The investigation into Kennedy Hill's death remains active.
