SAUGUS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A mother from Saugus who is battling breast cancer gets a big hand from a former New England Patriot.

Sheena Lamarra is a single mother of two who was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer back in 2024. She had to leave her job, and her family had to move from Revere to Saugus..

As a way to help her work through these struggles, three-time Super Bowl winner Joe Andruzzi and his organization The Joe Andruzzi Foundation partnered with the Lombardo Family and GlideFast Consulting to provide some monetary relief through the Lombardo Legacy Fund, named in honor of GlideFast CEO Michael Lombardo, who passed away from cancer one year ago.

Andruzzi and the foundations surprised Lamarra on Tuesday morning with a $3,000 grant to help pay for household expenses. They also let her know that her rent payments would be completely paid for through the end of the year.

Lamarra was blown away by the surprise.

“Having to raise two kids, it’s just hard, mentally hard, physically it was hard,” she said. “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.”

Andruzzi also shared some extra comfort and words of wisdom for Lamarra and those present, as he himself battled with cancer back in 2007.

“Live life to the fullest, every day is a blessing,” he said. “With this partnership, we can help you even more.”

Lamarra also said people should never be embarrassed to ask for help, as she believes that more often than not, someone will step up.
