BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Dorchester's Savin Hill neighborhood kicked off autumn early with its annual community yard sale.
Residents all around the area put their unwanted knick-knacks and attic clutter up for sale outside their homes.
“It’s been around for generations,” Susan, a local resident of the area, told WBZ NewsRadio at the event.
While the origins of the Savin Hill Yard Sale have always been a mystery, Organizer Heidi Moesinger said “it was a great time growing up with the yard sale" because it gave the neighborhood a "sense of community."
From old Pokémon cards to furniture from Allston Christmas, there were plenty of treasures to be found.
“We get a lot of students from UMass, just a lot of people looking and moving in September so they’re looking for things for their apartment,” Moesinger said.

Some families have been participating for years. “You get to see the neighbors and get rid of things that we don’t need any more but also to make sure that they don’t go into the landfill.” Bea, a longtime resident, said.
While thrifting and vintage resales are popular second hand markets, “this is the trend that I hope gets bigger," another yard-sale shopper told WBZ NewsRadio.
This year's Savin Hill Yard Sale took place on Saturday, Sept. 7.
