SANDWICH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's been an early start for Twin Acres Ice Cream Shoppe off Route 6A in Sandwich this past year, with the dessert destination open for seasonal business since March 16.

Twin Acres closed early last season when staffing shortages surfaced just after Labor Day, staff told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe.

"We normally stay open until the middle of October, so that was tough. This year, we're ready to go and hired a lot of kids," said one employee.

The ice cream shop says they have over 70 flavors for customers to choose from, scooping frozen treats into cones, cups, sundaes, or shakes.

According to Twin Acres, the shop got its start back in the mid-1970s in a one-car garage next to a colony that was built just around thirty years prior.

Then, in 1990, Owners Phil and Emily Barrett bought the stand, redesigning the place and employing college students to main the stations.

WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe (@KimWBZ) reports.
