HARVARD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A goat, named Caleb, has been found after going missing earlier this week from Sowa Goat Sanctuary in Harvard, Mass.
The roughly 10-year-old goat was a new arrival at the sanctuary. He took off when after being spooked during unloading, leaving behind his brother Joey.
The sanctuary said in a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon that a neighbor had located Caleb.
"We immediately rushed over to his house about 0.4 miles down the road from the sanctuary and sure enough we found Caleb tucked into the back corner of his lean-to behind his tractor," the post said.
Before Caleb was found, Sowa founder Olivia DiNardo told WBZ NewsRadio that volunteers and the community were heartbroken, and did everything possible to find Caleb.
"Somebody brought a bloodhound to see if she could pick up a scent," Olivia said. "The Harvard Fire Department has a thermal drone, so they surveyed the area where Caleb was last seen." They even offered a $5,000 reward.
The sanctuary's barn managers and volunteers managed to reunite Caleb with Joey.
"They IMMEDIATELY started nuzzling and could not be happier to be back together in the safety of the sanctuary," the post said. "Caleb is shaken but completely unharmed physically and is eating, drinking, and resting now."
Sowa Goat Sanctuary is a nonprofit that provides lifelong holistic care to dozens of abused, neglected, orphaned, and special needs farm animals. The barnyard family consists of fainting goats, chickens, turkeys, and two guardian dogs that roam the property protecting the animals from predators.
