PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Just days after the death of a 41-year-old New Hampshire man from Eastern equine encephalitis, a second human case of the mosquito-borne virus has been confirmed in Massachusetts.
Massachusetts health officials said a woman in her 30s was exposed in the area of Plymouth County, which was aerial sprayed for mosquitoes Tuesday night.
Officials said the woman became infected before the spraying.
The first human case in Massachusetts this year was a man in his 80s exposed in southern Worcester County.
Officials said there has also been a second confirmed case of Triple E in a horse.
In Plymouth County, Plymouth, Lakeville, and Middleboro remain at high risk.
Officials are hoping spraying and reducing outdoor evening activities will help fight the risk of Triple E.
