MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A second potential norovirus outbreak has impacted another school in Medford.
The halls of Saint Joseph School are empty for a second day in a row after a large spike in absences. Around 20 percent of the student body missed class on Monday which led to officials closing the school on Tuesday out of an abundance on caution. Parents were told that a significant number of students were experiencing stomach bug symptoms. The school is now undergoing a deep cleaning.
The outbreak comes a week after Robert Elementary also closed after a potential norovirus outbreak. More than 130 students and 20 staff members called out sick due to stomach issues.

Medford Public Schools Interim Superintendent Suzanne Galusi issued a statement last week acknowledging the outbreak. "While the building has been deemed safe and clean by the Board of Health, District & School leaders have determined there would not be a reasonable number of students and staff members present to have a structured and safe learning environment."
Classes are expected to reconvene on Thursday.
