BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Monday, backpacks lined Boston Common packing a powerful message.

The Send Silence Packing exhibit has made its way to Boston Common, with roughly 100 backpacks on display that represent a person who lost their life by suicide, or a story of hope from a survivor. Active Minds, which brings the exhibit to dozens of schools and communities, hopes it can help save those struggling with suicidal thoughts.

“This is such great space because this is such a corner stone of the Boston community, so being able to pull people in today is so exciting,” said Dayna Altman, Boston resident and speaker.

Altman came to the event to share her story and struggles with mental health, hoping to show others the power of community support.

“No matter how isolated you may feel, there is help. There are resources. There is a solution to however you may be feeling and we’re all here for you,” said Altman.

President of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation Josh Kraft was also in attendance for the event, emphasizing the importance of having conversations about mental health.

“We have to destigmatize it and let people know there’s people there for them and end suicide,” said Kraft.
