BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Several beaches and ponds around Massachusetts were closed Sunday. Most of the closures were due to bacterial exceedances in the water.
According to Mass.gov, water quality is monitored at more than 1,100 beaches around the state. The goal is to test the water for "indicator organisms" that indicate the presence of harmful pathogens.
Swimmers are advised not to enter the water at beaches that are closed.
