BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bad weather along the Atlantic coast and the effects of Debby have been causing major delays and cancellations at Logan Airport leaving weary travelers stranded.
Scores of flights over the weekend were diverted to Logan due to severe weather and on Sunday there were hundreds of flight cancellations and delays, many of them on JetBlue.
Some frustrated fliers ended up finding spots at the airport to try and catch up on sleep waiting for their flights to get re-scheduled or seats on other aircraft.
Airline officials said there are more people than available seats on planes, and to make matters worse, officials said area hotels are booked solid with no vacancies. "I called my husband and said 'I'm probably going to have to spend the night at the airport,'" said one frustrated flier. "The first thing he asked was 'Are there going to be other people?' I said 'There are going to be tons of other people spending the night at the airport!'"
Misery was also being shared on arriving aircraft unable to park at the terminals due to lack of available gates leaving passengers and crews stuck on jets for as long as six hours.
Some people said they were stuck with no food, power, or restroom availability.
