BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fans from far and wide were left frustrated after discovering Thursday's Shakira concert and Friday's Jason Alden and Brooks & Dunn show were abruptly canceled Thursday afternoon.
Citing "unforeseen circumstances" and "structural elements" involving the stage as the cause, concert promoter, Live Nation apologized for the inconvenience after announcing that refunds would be available at the attendee's point of purchase. While Live Nation offered an apology and refund, fans were still not appeased.
"Two hours before the [Shakira] concert — I was so disappointed," said one concertgoer.
"Her first albums were in Spanish. I'm Mexican, so I listen to a lot of that since I was like seven years old. And this was my first concert. My first big concert and my first Shakira concert," said another attendee.
Even with the refund for the ticket, the additional funds spent on travel and accommodations are top of mind for fans who traveled to see the pop star.
"I spent $400, $500 for parking and Airbnb," said one disheartened fan.
The May 29 and 30 shows were scheduled to kick off the annual Fenway Park concert series. As much as the fans were left in disbelief, businesses also felt the sting of the cancellation.
"It actually affected my mom's business as well because she works for the company that sets up the concerts. They had to go in and like undo everything quickly," said one attendee.
The Grammy Award-winning artist launched the North American leg of her tour on May 13 in Charlotte, North Carolina. As of now, there is no word about when or if the shows will be rescheduled. Shakira's next stop on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour is in Washington D.C. at Nationals Park on Saturday, May 31.
