WELLFLEET (WBZ NewsRadio) — Swimmers were cleared from the water at Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet on Wednesday when a shark was spotted near shore.
A picture posted by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy shows the close encounter. "Newcomb Hollow yesterday after swimmers were removed from the water due to a white shark spotted," the Conservancy posted. "August-October are peak months of white shark activity off Cape Cod."
The conservancy is warning beach-goers not to venture past waist-deep water, whether or not a sighting is reported.
Newcomb Hollow Beach was the site of the first deadly shark attack on Cape Cod since 1936.
