SHARON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Sharon High School football player was hospitalized after suffering a traumatic brain injury during the annual Thanksgiving game.
Sharon Public Schools Superintendent Peter J. Botelho and Sharon High School Principal Kristen Keenan shared the news in an open letter to the community Saturday.
Botelho and Keenan said sophomore Rohan Shukla collapsed on the sidelines after getting injured playing Easton's Oliver Ames High School. Trainers, coaches, and emergency personnel responded immediately and the game was called off.

Shukla was first transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton and then to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he is currently being treated.
"Our thoughts and prayers are going out to Rohan, his parents Abhishek and Deepika, and his twin brother Naman during this incredibly difficult time," Botelho and Kennan stated. "While offering our heartfelt support, we respect the family’s privacy and consideration. As we learn more about Rohan’s condition, we will share it with our concerned community as appropriate."
On Friday, Shukla's teammate Sam Letendre set up a GoFundMe for Shukla and his family. The fundraiser raised $25,920 before it was closed at the request of Shukla's family.
According to the fundraiser, Shukla underwent brain surgery.
School officials said counselors will be available at Sharon High School Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. to support the football team and cheerleading squad and from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. to support other students, staff, and community members.
