ANDOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ahead of students starting school, the finishing touches are being made to a new preschool and athletic field in Andover.
The entire project has been under construction for over four years with a $168 million price tag. This time last year, the brand new West Elementary School was opening to students. When students return to school on Monday— they'll have a new athletic field to play on.
The field sits right where the old West Elementary School used to be.

Joel Blumstein is chairman of the building committee.
"It's been a huge effort— thousands of people have worked on this project over the last few years. Playing fields will be available both for our students and for the whole community, this is going to be a community resource for all of Andover," Blumstein said.

Then on September 2, students can walk into a new two-story Shawsheen Preschool, replacing the old building with the same name.
"The prior Shawsheen Preschool was over a hundred years old, it was really no longer fit to serve our students." Blumstein said.
