CONCORD, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One person was killed in a shooting at New Hampshire Hospital in Concord Friday afternoon, authorities said.

New Hampshire State Police said the victim was taken to a hospital, where they died of their injuries. Their identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The suspect in the shooting was shot and killed by a state trooper on duty at the psychiatric hospital, state police said. Police are working on determining the suspect's identity and a possible motive.

Officials said the shooting was contained to the front lobby of New Hampshire Hospital. All patients are safe and there is no active threat to the public. The scene remains active while authorities investigate a suspicious vehicle.

"This afternoon, there was an incident at New Hampshire Hospital, which has been contained," New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu said in a statement. "While the scene remains active as the campus is cleared, the suspect is deceased. The state immediately mobilized, and first responders and law enforcement are on the scene. We will provide as many details as possible as this situation unfolds."

New Hampshire Hospital is an inpatient psychiatric hospital with 184 staffed beds. All visitors must go through a metal detector.

The hospital is on a 120-acre campus that is home to several large state agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education, the Public Utility Commission, and others.
