BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Temperatures dropped to single digits Tuesday throughout Massachusetts as an arctic air mass moves over the region this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The City of Boston issued a cold weather advisory from Tuesday through Thursday. Facilities that are part of the Boston Centers for Youth & Families and Boston Public Library will act as warming hubs during normal operating hours.

The city advises residents to bundle up, wearing several layers of loose-fitting clothing when outside.

The city also recommends keeping exposed skin to a minimum to prevent frostbite. In those cases, the skin can appear white and pale and worsen as time goes on.

As for signs of hypothermia, those can include uncontrollable shivering, disorientation, slurred speech, drowsiness, and apparent exhaustion.

NWS said wind chill Tuesday morning led to a low temperature of minus 5 degrees in the Boston area, down to minus 10 degrees in the central and western parts of the state.

For Wednesday morning, NWS forecasted minimum wind chills to repeat themselves in Boston.

Across the South Shore and the northern central part of the Commonwealth, NWS predict temperatures to be minus 10 degrees that same day.

The drop in temperatures comes after a snowstorm Sunday night, when the Greater Boston area received anywhere from 5 to 6 inches. The northwest corner of the state received up to 7 inches.
