In the category of "Outstanding Chef," Douglass Williams at MIDA in the South End made the cut to be one of the 22 contestants making a run for the national title.
The other five chefs made their mark in the category "Best Chefs: Northeast," at restaurants in the City:
- Tiffani Faison at Orfano on Boylston Street.
- Tico Huynh at Yvonne's on Winter Place.
- Jeremy Kean and Philip Kruta at Brassica Kitchen + Cafe on Washington Street in Jamaica Plain.
- John DaSilva at Chickadee on Drydock Avenue in Seaport.
The winners were set to be announced on March 16 and celebrated in ceremonies on June 13 in Chicago.
The awards were named for the late chef, cookbook author, and television personality that the New York Times anointed the "dean of American cookery."
