Six Rescued Off Overturned Boat In Buzzard's Bay

MARION, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Coast Guard said good Samaritans rescued six people from Buzzard's Bay after their boat overturned early Sunday morning.

The Marion Fire Department said they got the call at around 7:00 AM: a boat had overturned in the Hog Island Channel portion of Buzzard's Bay, just west of the Cape Cod Canal.

The Coast Guard said it also responded, saying the boat that overturned was a 15-foot recreational vessel, and that two good Samaritan boats had pulled the people out of the water and transferred them over to fire officials once they arrived.

Fire officials said six occupants of the boat were in the water for just ten minutes before being rescued.

A Coast Guard spokeswoman said the Marion harbormaster had towed the boat out of the Hog Island Channel so no other passing boats would hit it.
