CANTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Despite rain and a small amount of actual fallen snow this winter, skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes at the Blue Hills Ski Area in Canton Thursday.

"I actually like the conditions a lot when it’s raining, thought the lift is a bit wet," 10-year-old Thomas told WBZ NewsRadio.

"I think [the conditions] have been pretty good," said Eleanor, Thomas's 12-year-old sister. "It was a little icy yesterday, but I think they’ve been pretty good."

Thanks to snow machines, the area is working with 8-20 inches of snow, according to the latest conditions report. The last significant snowfall recorded in the Blue Hills area was only two inches on Friday, Jan. 6. Since Nov. 16, 2022, the area has received around four inches of fallen snow.

"So last year we were here [the] whole season," said Thomas and Eleanor's mother. "I’m actually impressed with the conditions here, thinking that there is so little snow."

Other Blue Hills visitors like Casey and her young son Parker are also enjoying the slopes.

"This is like his second time on skis," Casey said about Parker. "We got down a couple times, so we’re having fun."
