PRINCETON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — This week's late winter nor'easter is good news for skiers across New England.

Wachusett Mountain in Worcester County got a whopping 30 inches of snow during the storm, and after a relatively mild winter, the snowfall was a welcomed site for skiers and mountain officials alike. WBZ's James Rojas spoke with one excited skier who was excited to get a chance to ski with a fresh coat of snow on the mountain.

"I'm giddy, I really am," he said. "We've been waiting for this all season long."

It's only Wednesday, but skiers are already turning out in droves to take advantage of what has been a rare large snowfall in Massachusetts. It did not take long for Wachusett's parking lot to start to fill up.

"I get here early and I usually park in row one or row two," one skier said. "I had to park in row three today and like I said I got here nice and early."

This winter has not been the best for skiers and mountains alike. New England saw its warmest January on record and cities like Boston broke records with temperatures in the 60s in the middle of February. The mild winter has taken a toll on many skiers plans for the winter.

"Normally this time of year I'm at like 30 to 45 days [spent skiing]," one skier said. "This is day 11 so this season has been a little rough."

But with snow totals from this week's nor'easter reaching up to three feet in some places in Massachusetts, some skiers said this storm makes up for missing out on most of the season.

"It's just as good now as its ever been in March," he said. "There's more snow now than there was last March so that's great."

One person who was particularly excited to see nearly three feet of snow drop on the mountain is Jeff Crowley, president of the Wachusett Mountain. He told WBZ's James Rojas he was relieved to see all the snow on the ground and people heading to the mountain, but he does wish it came a little sooner.

"Once you see the snow in the backyard everyone wants to get out here which is understandable," Crowley said. "It would have been nice if this were December or January but we're delighted anytime it comes like this."

With plenty of folks on the mountain already, Crowley said they're expecting this weekend to be quite busy.

"Our numbers are going to busy this weekend for sure," he said. "We're expecting reservations to be close to a sell out situation."
