METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Beginning next summer, drivers in Methuen will have to reduce their speed in certain parts of town that have no posted speed limit.
After receiving complaints, the Methuen City Council approved a new rule that lowers the speed limit from 30 mph to 25 in 'thickly settled' areas.
This Methuen resident said she fully supports the new law because she often takes care of her grandchild at her home. "People fly down my street at 40 and 50 miles an hour. With the children and the traffic, I think it's a great idea to keep it at 25."
The new law was adopted on Oct.1 and goes into effect on July 1.
The areas affected will be the unmarked business districts and densely packed residential neighborhoods.
