CAPE COD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A small airplane crashed into the woods during takeoff at Cape Cod Airfield Wednesday, according to the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department.

Firefighters found the single engine plane in the trees and underbrush at the end of Runway 23, between the airfield and Race Lane.

Officials said there were two occupants inside the plane when it crashed, both of whom exited the plane on their own. One of the occupants suffered minor injuries, but denied medical transport to the hospital.

The plane suffered "minor to moderate damage," according to Fire Captain Brian Morrison who was one of the first on the scene following the crash.

After the crash, the plane was towed out of the woods and transported to the hanger.

The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
