Snowplow Hits Gas Main In Needham

NEEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Some residents at an assisted living facility in Needham, Mass. are back in their homes after a snowplow hit a gas main Monday morning.

The incident occured at 1 Wingate Way around 9:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Dennis Condon said the incident caused high pressure gas to seep into the building.

“Companies immediately evacuated people from 1 Wingate Way to the Wingate Nursing Facility. We had out of town companies from Dedham, Westwood, and Wellesley," Condon said. "Not everyone was ambulatory so we assisted them with our personnel with the people onsite and with out of town ambulances who assisted us. But, there were no injuries.”

The gas dissipated and residents have been allowed back into their homes. Eversource is replacing the gas meter and repairing the gas line.
