Social Cannabis Consumption Potentially Coming to Massachusetts

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Cannabis Control Commission has asked the public for feedback over the idea of allowing the use of marijuana at events or in designated areas. It would be similar to buying alcohol at a bar and drinking it there.

Proposed regulations would be similar for pot products. Some cannabis users are excited about the idea of being able to use marijuana in more of a social setting.

“If alcohol is legal and you can drink at bars, why not. As long as it’s regulated, maybe it’s better to have designated places,” one local supporter said.

Some locals do have concerns, however.

“Alcohol seems to have a quicker wear-off effect, whereas cannabis may take longer,” one local critic of cannabis said.

“If you’re going to go toke up and then drive, that’s a really bad idea,” another opposer of “cannabis bars” said.

If adopted, Massachusetts would be the eleventh state with social cannabis consumption regulations.
