BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new social media challenge is trying to encourage consumers to adopt responsible spending habits, at least for a month.

The challenge encourages consumers to see if they can last a month by only spending money that they need to spend, without those extra purchases taking hold on your bank account.

“It’s good, you got to save money," one person in Boston told WBZ NewsRadio.

“I know some people will have like one or two days a week where they don’t spend money,” said another.

“I think I can [do it], I’m pretty disciplined in my life,” added another.

Those who participate in the challenge share their successes and failures on social media, with some participants being more successful than others.
