QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you are of a certain age, you should remember the short form video sharing app that turned into a short-lived phenomenon called Vine.
Vine was shut down back in 2017, after it was purchased by Twitter but it’s coming back, under the name diVine, which is in mobile testing right now but it will be a similar format.
“Right when I went to sign up for Vine, Instagram went and store their thunder,” a soon-to-be user said.
On the back of Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, diVine will give access to more than 100,000 archived Vine videos, restored from an older backup that was created before Vine’s shutdown.
On the platform, social videos will run 6 to 7 seconds long, just like the original app.
“Less is more, that’s definitely the most important thing,” a former Vine user said.
The new app is planned to be free of AI, which is a shift from most social media apps we use.
“People have short attention spans at this point,” one social media user said.
Although diVine is in a mobile testing form, you can join the diVine wait list and it’s expected to be rolled out on iOS and Android in 2026.
