SAUGUS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Demand for sneakers themed after the Kowloon restaurant in Saugus was through the roof, with stock selling out within the first 48 hours of being released.
The sneakers came out as a collaboration between designer blueswaydshoes and Kowloon co-owner Bob Wong, featuring the Asian eatery's signature logo, Chinese characters, and red, black, and gold colors. The kicks didn't come cheap either, each pair was priced at $495 in the first round of 100 sneakers.
If you're worried you missed out, Wong has good news— another batch of Kowloon sneakers is in the works.
"Yeah, we're going to do more runs. So, I figured we add a non-profit component it'd be great— I just got off the phone with Joe O'Donnell, he started the Joey Fund, I figured the next line of sneakers will definitely be associated with the Joey Fund," Wong said.
Last month, WBZ's Adam Kaufman spoke with Sway of blueswaydshoes about his craft of designing sneakers, and his work ethic which leaves room for little sleep.
Wong told WBZ's Shari Small that he never saw the overwhelming response coming when the shoes hit the market.
"I was very surprised. We put it out online this Sunday night," Wong said.
