Some travelers, hoping to beat weekend airport crowds, flew out of Logan Airport early on Thursday.

Among the travelers that WBZ NewsRadio spoke to, they were mostly headed to southern destinations like Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida to visit family and friends.

“A close friend of mine has property [in Fort Lauderdale], so I’m headed out there with her,” said one Florida bound traveler.

“Just visiting family [in North Carolina],” said another.

The Florida traveler said that they chose the earliest possible flight out of Logan Airport to avoid the busiest travel periods during the day.

One New England family is also taking advantage of an early flight out of Logan to head to Las Vegas for the long weekend.

WBZ NewsRadio asked them why they picked one of the busiest travel weekends of the year for their trip, and they said that it had a lot to do with the fact that it was a long weekend.

Meanwhile, AAA said that some of the top travel destinations for this holiday weekend include Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Orlando.
