Somerset Police Investigating Two Dead In Fatal Motorcycle Crash

SOMERSET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are investigating a double fatal motorcycle crash that occurred early Saturday morning in Somerset.

The Somerset Police Department said at 1:14 a.m., they received a report of a vehicle that had struck a telephone pole on the Rte. 103 rotary.

Authorities said officers responded to the scene and found a motorcycle and a vehicle with two victims--a male and a female--lying in the roadway. The male victim, who is believed to be the operator of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim, who is believed to be a passenger on the motorcycle, was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

On Sunday, the Seekonk Police Department identified the woman as off-duty patrolwoman Kourtny DeFortis. The male victim has not yet been identified.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital out of an abundance of caution, according to officials.

Police said a preliminary investigation suggests the motorcycle entered the rotary in the wrong direction and crashed into the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
