SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police in Somerville are on the lookout for criminal activity along a bike path at the border of North Cambridge and Somerville on Massachusetts Avenue.
From verbal harassment to even physical altercations, authorities have received several reports from community members involving teens harassing runners and cyclists on the Somerville Community Bike Path. Some residents, like Martha, said they are well aware of the problems.
"There have been some incidents on the bike path. I don't know if it was morning or night. I don't know — with some younger people harassing walkers. That's about all I've heard. The community pages on Facebook have a lot of information like that."

An average of 3,300 people use the path daily. According to a statement from the city, there have been no reports made to the SPD regarding assaults on the bike path; however, they are aware of incidents involving juveniles engaging in harassing behavior. In light of the recent issues, police officers will let their presence be known in the area of Lowell and Cedar Streets, as well as near Somerville High School.
"I think it's reasonable from a safety perspective to, you know, have some increased police presence," one resident said.
