SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Somerville Fire officials said a building collapsed in Somerville on Tuesday afternoon. The collapse happened as intense thunderstorms swept the area. Photos show the roof of 297 Medford Street, a one-story brick building, had completely collapsed on top of several cars, with rainwater pooling into the building to boot.
The building houses A Plus Auto Body, a car detailing and repair shop.
Somerville Fire Department Chief Engineer Charles Breen said the roof on the right side of the building totally collapsed, and that utility companies had shut off power and gas so the damage could be dealt with.
No injuries were reported.
